Consolidated Edison Company of New York
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Legislation in place to stop a 12 percent hike in Con Edison bills next month has hit a speed bump. The New York Post reports that Senate Republicans passed a different measure Monday night that would expand tax breaks for electric companies and could cost taxpayers $2 billion.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is pushing a bill that gives the companies permanent property-tax abatements, thereby removing the basis for a rate hike. (Copyright ©2011 WABC-TV/DT. All Rights Reserved.)
