Conn. casinos report mixed April revenue results

AP  HARTFORD -- Connecticut's Mohegan Sun casino has reported a 3 percent decline in slot revenue in April while the Foxwoods Resort Casino and MGM Grand at Foxwoods says its revenue jumped 9 percent.

The Mohegan Sun said Monday its revenue was $61.6 million, down from $63.7 million in April 2010. Its decline was steeper than in March, but improved from January and late 2010 as the weak economy reduced consumer spending.

Foxwoods reported revenue of $57.1 million, up from $52.3 million from last year. The increase represented a turnaround from March when revenue barely rose. Scott Butera, president of Foxwoods, credited spring weather and improved entertainment.

Mohegan Sun President and CEO Jeffrey Hartmann says the casino sacrificed market share with promotional offers to boost visits. He says officials will be satisfied with third-quarter results due out this summer. (Copyright ©2011 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) Get more Business »
