NEW YORK -- Getting away this summer could really cost you. High passenger volume, coupled with the soaring cost of fuel, means airfare is on the rise.
The average cost of an airline ticket is $561, up 15 percent from last year.
But there are ways around those pricey plane rides.You can "friend" and follow the airlines on social media for great deals.
Airline industry insiders also say flying off-peak times, such as Monday morning instead of Sunday night, could save you a bundle.
