You say one hour minimum and call for a strike? What about 30 minutes? And what is the point of going on strike? Someone will do it for less. There is necessarily someone ready to do it for less. The discussion about "quality" doesn't fit in. It is pure financial considerations. The fact that subjects may not be mundane and it takes time to try and make do with half-backed preparation based on scanty briefings about the subject - usually no briefing - has no credit. It is a matter of money, period. That is why I quit a year or more ago with phone interpretation in investment consulting. They called me back long after (was it beginning of this year?) asking me to perform an assignment. It was not a matter of interpretation style - consecutive was OK - but the price was even lower, no more short notice extra. The young lady who inquired - highly unstable position - suggested me to contact the managers and explain why a 30 minutes base fee was indecent. To what I told her that I had already done this in full details with suggestions on raising quality, and was totally ignored. The conclusion is : don't call for a strike. Call it quit but write about it in blogs, more than 140 signs, and hope for the discussion to grow.
